PARENT FAQ
What is a typical day like at camp?
Camp days are fun and busy.
Wednesday-Friday, the morning begins with learning how to spend time with God in devotionals, followed by active games at the park, and then lunch. During the afternoons, there is a rotation of breakout teaching, games, and time in the prayer room. The main sessions are a time of corporate worship, announcements, teaching and preaching, and ministry time. Saturday is similar, but begins in the afternoon and runs through the evening, including a special dinner before the final main session. Expect your child to return home tired, but excited about all that God is doing.
What are the teaching topics?
We believe that there is “no junior Holy Spirit” and kids can learn to hear God’s voice and let Him work through them! The afternoon breakouts will include training on hearing God’s voice and ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit. The evening sessions will focus on the theme of creating a spiritual appetite for the Word of God and for prayer.
Are meals provided?
The mealtimes campers will be at camp are Wednesday-Friday lunch, and Saturday dinner. A Saturday pizza dinner [updated 7-6-23… pizza is the new dinner plan!] is provided, but we ask that campers bring their own lunches. Please no peanuts in lunches, in consideration for allergies. Refrigeration and reheating will not be available, so pack something they can carry with them and eat easily.
Are snacks provided?
An afternoon snack time will occur daily at 2:40. A simple, healthy snack will be provided.
What does my child need with them each day?
Please bring Bible, sunscreen, water bottle, and tennis shoes.
Note: You will want to label everything. Many children bring similar items to camp, making it difficult to sort personal belongings when it’s time to go home. It is always best to label all items with your child’s name, using labels or a permanent marker.
What should not be packed?
The following items are not allowed at camp: shaving cream, fireworks, weapons, firearms, water guns, mobile phones, MP3 players, iPods, laptops, CD players, or any other entertainment devices. All baggage is subject to search.
Does my child need to have medical insurance?
Children do not need to have medical insurance to attend the camps. However, please note that insurance is not included in the camp fees.
Who are the group leaders?
Group leaders are staff of The Prayer Room. All group leaders (and, in fact, all camp staff) go through a background check.
Can parents shadow the camp?
Parents are welcome to spend time on site in the public areas of The Prayer Room, such as the prayer room and lobby. To provide the best experience for our campers and staff, we ask that parents do not shadow their campers throughout the day. However, all family and friends are encouraged to attend the final session of the camp on Saturday 7-9pm!
What are the grounds for dismissal?
The leadership reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose influence or actions may be detrimental to the best interests of the other camp members. These actions include, but are not limited to, disrespect of authority, dyeing or cutting hair (their own or another person’s), possession or use of drugs and/or weapons, theft, self-abuse, and inappropriate physical contact.
